Backplate and Wing - Pros and Cons

scuba certification

Two separate parts of a scuba helmet are the backplate (wing) and the wing (wing). Each part is attached to a buoyancy compensater that creates neutral buoyancy underwater, and positive buoyancy above the surface. Backplate is modular and can be taken apart from the wing. These are great options for divers who aren't certain which type they should get. Listed below are pros and cons of each.

Stainless steel

You can have your stainless steel wings or back plate with or without a belt. Backplate and wings made from 316 stainless-steel are highly resistant to saltwater. The backplate is cut with a CNC cutter and polished manually in order to prevent sharp edges from prematurely wearing the strap. These can be used with either a single or dual-airtank system. You can remove the stainless steel wings and backplate for easy storage.

Backplates made from stainless steel are much heavier than those made of aluminium. Stainless steel backplates can be used in colder areas to reduce weight. Stainless Steel backplates are much easier to fit than lead pieces. To help you determine the right weight for you, a Halcyon Dealer will provide weighting advice. The backplate will last longer so that you don't need it to be replaced as often.

Plastic

Although the plastic back plate/wing buoyancy is not ideal, it can still be useful for replacing weight on the weight belt. Jacket BCDs include pockets and weight integration. These features are not present in the backplate or wings system. These components can also be bought separately. These components can be purchased separately. This article will explain the pros and disadvantages of each. Choosing the right type of back plate for your needs is essential.

Softpack harness

There are many types of harnesses available for wings and back plates. These include wing BCDs and backplates. They come with all the components needed, including a harness and backplate. Softpack BCDs make technical divers' lives easier. They are lightweight and flexible and do not attach to rigid plates.

The problem with steel backplate harnesses, however, is their inability to be adjusted. The harness is not intended to be used with single tanks. The steel harness is the most rigid option but is clumsy to use when traveling. This steel harness can only be used with double tanks. The steel backplate is also not recommended for use on the land. Attaching adapters can make it work with single tanks, but this is not recommended.
