What is an Aqualung? In its simplest form, it is a self-contained, open-circuit breathing apparatus. Aqua-Lungs, one of the earliest types of self-contained breathing apparatuses, quickly became popular and commercially successful. This equipment is commonly known as a twin hose diving regulator or demand valve. Emile Gagnan, Jacques Cousteau, and Emile Gaugnan were among the first to use aqualungs. They became a huge hit in the diving community.
Jacques Cousteau
Jacques Cousteau was the inventor of the first open-circuit self-contained underwater breathing device. His design was built on a demand valve that provided compressed air to divers for underwater breathing. Named the Aqua-Lung, this device opened the world of diving to anyone with an interest in the sport. Aqua-Lungs were the norm for divers worldwide thanks to Cousteau.
Emile Gagnan
Emile Ggnanan and Jacques-Yves Cousteau invented the Aqualung in the 1940s. Its original design derives from earlier designs of diving helmets that were made in the 19th Century. It allows underwater divers the ability to breathe through a mouthpiece, which releases compressed oxygen activated by diver's breath. Gagnan improved the regulator valve of the device, which automatically supplies compressed air to the mouthpiece of the diver in proportion to how much breath the diver takes. This device was a significant breakthrough in the diving world, allowing people to explore depths of ocean for scientific observation, military and recreational use.

The first open circuit demand regulator
The Aqua-Lung was developed by Cousteau in 1944. It was patented in 1946. The Aqua-Lung has been a favorite scuba regulator for many years. Gagnan (cousteau's father in law) and Emile Gagnan (a French chemist), were also part of this team. They all knew Cousteau and decided to collaborate on the Aqua-Lung regulator.
The BC1
The BC1 Aqua Lung is a high-tech back inflation BC that can be used for advanced commercial, military and public safety divers. Additionally, the soft polyurethane shell provides a comfortable fit. Its lightweight and strong design makes it easy to use during extended dives. It is affordable because of its moderate price. The device includes two stages, one of which prevents unwanted freeflow.
The Mentor
Aqua lung Mentor, developed in conjunction with US Navy, is a regulator which replaces the old double hoses used for training divers for rebreather usage. The Aqua lung, while not yet for sale to the public, is a good choice for professionals divers looking for an alternate to the double hose regulators. Be aware of these things when purchasing the Aqualung Mentor. You must first calibrate it.
