What is the Difference between a Wet Suit & a Dry Suit?

prescription scuba mask

The primary difference between a wetsuit and a drysuit, is how much water is allowed into the suit. You will need to consider your preferences and what activities you intend to engage in before deciding on a wetsuit. Ask yourself questions such a how long you are planning to be in the pool, what temperature it is, and what type of body you have.

Goretex dry suits

A key difference between Gore-Tex dry suits and wetsuits is the fabric. Non-GoreTex suits don’t breathe as well, and they don’t provide the same level comfort and durability. New dry suit fabrics are available, including waterproof and breathable fabric. Kokatat designed a dry suit using a Gore-Tex fabric that is durable and yet breathable. Kokatat's suits became the first to go on the market.

Trilaminate dry suits

The outer shell of each suit is what distinguishes wet suits from dry suits. Trilaminate suits, while waterproof, lack insulation and generally light in weight. They also require a better fitting and are less flexible that trilaminate ones. This article will cover the major differences between wet suits vs trilaminate suit and provide tips on which one to choose.

Suits from IR

If you are comparing the advantages of a wet suit and a drysuit, remember that they both have waterproof and watertight properties, which means they can keep you dry longer. Dry suits are not only warm but they also keep water from transferring onto your skin. Many dry suits have purge valves. Dry suits are used by aircrews for example.
