You can become a Cavern Diver

how old do you have to be to scuba dive

A scuba diving course is required if you want to become a cavern diver. The course includes four scuba divers. The first is an outdoors practice dive. Here you will learn the basics of handling line, reel, avoiding silt, and managing air. Your instructor will help you plan your dive and maintain your control over your orientation and air flow. You will be able, upon completion, to dive in caves or other caves that follow safety rules.

Safety

Cave diving safety protocols follow the Rule of Threes. Cave divers should have at least three sources of light, and two tanks. To ensure they are able to survive the dive, they should separate their gas into three sections. If the dive team has previous experience with cave diving, a more conservative approach to gas management is recommended. Cave divers should not only avoid cave hazards but also practice safe diving practices.

Equipment

Cave diving requires specialized equipment. Two types of safety reels are essential. One should be used to run guideline, while the other should be used to maintain line tension while the diver is in the cave. For cavern diving, each diver must have a safety rod with enough line for the distance to the cave's entrance. Manufacturers will often pack the reels up to the edge with guideline when making a new reel. This makes them more susceptible to jamming. To avoid jamming, remove approximately 10 meters (30ft), of line prior to use.

Maximum penetration

TDI offers a cavern diver course that is designed for scuba divers who wish to dive in areas where direct vertical access is not possible. This includes overhangs and cavern diving. This course is not required to be able to dive in caverns, but it will teach you the skills necessary to make the most out of these environments. You will learn how safe to navigate narrow spaces that are often hidden from public view.

Maximum depth

Cavern diving has some limitations. Cavern diving should not be done at night. Cavern diving requires advanced training, which is not the case for other types. If you're curious about diving in caverns, you'll need to learn the basic cave safety procedures and know your limits. You should also have some cave diving experience before you try it. After that, you are ready to embark on your journey into the cavern diving world!
