Costa Rica's diverse marine life draws divers to it. Costa Rica waters can be home to many aquatic species, such as humpback whales and dolphins, bull sharks or bull sharks. Costa Rica is a great place to dive if you're a seasoned diver. Regardless of your level of experience, there are diving destinations in Costa Rica for you to enjoy.

Cano Island

The waters around Cano Island are turquoise, providing the perfect setting for snorkeling and scuba diving. The region is home to some of the most abundant coral-building organisms in the world, including brain and head corals. The waters of the region are home to large marine organisms such as mantas rays and humpbacks. In the rainy months, accommodations and prices will be lower and people will be less.

Islas Murcielagos

One of the top Costa Rica dive sites, the Islas Murcielagos are a group of islands located in the southern tip of the Santa Elena Peninsula, just north of Papagayo. The islands are surrounded with the ocean and provide exceptional visibility. This area is home to many species of fish, rays and other marine life. You can also spot bull sharks or olive ridley turtles in this area.

Catalina Island

Catalina Island is the ideal place for those who want to have an unforgettable diving experience. These uninhabited islands are located only 2-15 miles from Costa Rica's northwest coast. The area has similar visibility and temperatures to the Pacific Coast. However, there are differences in the water. Catalina Island, which is a warm, calm environment and home to many marine species, is the place for you.

Puerto Viejo

The transportation situation is an important consideration when planning your Puerto Viejo vacation. Puerto Viejo doesn't have any parking facilities so most people park on the roadsides. If you're driving, leave your vehicle at your accommodation and walk or cycle through the center of town. You can also take an official red taxi around town or call a taxi at any local establishment.
