St Lucia offers many opportunities for scuba diving. Some of the most spectacular dives can be found near the Anse Chastanet reef. These dives are accessible to anyone who isn't used to scuba diving. They range between 10 and 25 feet and feature some of the most colorful corals.
Anse Chastanet Reef
Anse Chastanet, a resort on 600 acres, has two volcanic black beaches and pristine corals. There are many water sports available, including snorkeling and scuba diving. The resort offers complimentary guided hikes and relaxation on the beaches. An organic farm and chocolate laboratory are located on the estate.
Ansechastanet has received numerous awards, including five Best Of Readers' Choice Awards. It is both a great place to learn and a great spot for experienced divers. There are wrecks, wall diving and boat diving on the reef. Many divers enjoy night dives on the Anse Chastanet reef.
Dani Koyomaru
Scuba divers who want to dive in Saint Lucia have a few options. You have two choices: you can go to Rosemond's Trench (which is smaller but still impressive), or you can dive deeper. This place is known for its vast schools of tropical fish, large man-sized sponges, intricate coral formations, and huge schools. It is also an excellent place to view the Saint Lucia reef system.
Just a few miles off the coast is Daini Koyomaru's wreck. In 1996, this Japanese dredger was sunk. The ship is partially submerged and the superstructure holds the wreck. You can see the upturned decks and inscriptions in Japanese as well as other languages.
Dani Koyomaru Dredger
Daini Koyomaru, originally a Japanese fishing vessel and dredged 1996, is a stunning wreck to dive. It measures approximately 74 meters long by 24 meters high. The dredger can be sunk on its side and is now safe for experienced divers. Among its resident marine life are French angelfish, garden eels, moray eels, and barracudas.
Another popular St Lucia dive location is the 165-foot Japanese dredger Lesleen M. The reef is home for a variety of interesting creatures such as scorpionfish, flying garnards, and rays, despite its limited depths.
Soufriere Marine Management Area
The Soufriere Marine Management Area in St Lucia is an excellent place to dive and get close to the coral reefs. The marine management area was created in order to protect the waters and maintain a healthy ecosystem. Its establishment was inspired by environmental degradation and conflict among resource users. In particular, conflicts between scuba divers and local fishermen were critical to the creation of the SMMA.
Since 2004, the Soufriere-Pitons site has been a UNESCO World Heritage. It is managed by the Nature Reserve and boasts some of the most beautiful diving in St Lucia. You will find many coral species here, and a lot of tropical fish. The area is known for its passage of predators and cetaceans. Divers will also be able to see the incredible marine biodiversity.
